As of this date, if one wanted an original 1911 colt, expect to pay high prices. For the average collector who wants a faithful repro that one will shoot, (I doubt an original in 95+ condiion would be shot much if at all ...), the Colt 1911 reproduction is a "BLAST FROM THE PAST". Every time I squeeze the trigger it sends shiffers up my spine! WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and yes, OZ, the Land of Sand! IT WORKED everywhere when the chips were down. Keep your tight, poly, high cap, range pistols. Even if the current Colt 1911 isn't original, it's a shooter that brings the past into range. Imagine, every time you shoot it, you grasp history in your hands! For those who served, TEARS SHOULD COME TO YOUR EYES! ( And don't hide them from the other guys on the range)
