I just bought one of the Colt M4 22LR Tactical Rimfire Rifle. After a day at the range, I have to say that I absolutely love this gun! I was just a little disappointed that it does not operate exactly like its 5.56 mm brother, which is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. You need a punch to drive the retainer pin out in order to open the action. The forward assist is non-functional, but not likely needed on a .22 LR. The bolt release is non-functional, and the only way to lock the bolt open is to insert an empty magazine and pull the charging handle. The rifle functions flawlessly. The magazine works well and is easy to load, but the rifle only comes with one 30-round magazine. It should come with two mags, since a spare magazine is an absolute necessity for any semi-automatic firearm. I ordered an extra 30 rounder and a 10 rounder. The cost was $82.00 including shipping, which is quite expensive I think. Accuracy is phenomenal! Open sights and shooting from a rest, you can produce one ragged hole with as many rounds as you care to shoot. If you add a scope, or have much better eyesight than I have, you can keep a quarter inch group with match ammo, and a half-inch group with cheap Walmart Federal bulk ammo! I would definitely recommend this gun to anyone looking for a fantastic, cheap to shoot AR. For about the same money as a conversion upper, you get the entire gun! Some people have complained that the upper is not interchangable with other AR platforms, but I find no disadvantage here. It would be a plus if it would interchange, but, since you have the entire rifle as a dedicated .22LR, what's the big deal if you can't transfer the upper to another AR? I would rather have two complete ARs than one lower receiver and two uppers. Especially if I can have two complete rifles for the price of one plus a seperate conversion upper.
