A Great n Fun Weapon
by Sam Roberts on February 01, 2010

Two days after buying this weapon I took it to the gun range where I shot it for the first time at a target set at 25 yards and hit it approx 4 inches from the bullseye with a copper hollow point sabot, I then giggled like a little school girl. Even with money no object you can't get a more fun gun to shoot, and being based on the AK-47 model makes it easy to clean and maintain. I also found that a deer slug will destroy a water filled gallon milk jug as it sends it about 12 feet in the air and back about 20 to 30 feet leaving very little to pick up aftrewards. All I can say is if you like shotguns and fun then you have to get this weapon.
A Very Happy Gilberts Customer

Not very happy with this purchaqase

The purchase price was great, shipping and handling were right on got my weapon within the promised time frame. I really wish I could say the same for customer service, I shot the weapon during the 1st outing and the weapon jammed 4 out of 10 shots, not very good odds. At least I wasn't using it in a self defense incident... I have contacted Gilberts via telephone a week before the Christmas holiday and then sent them an email right after the holiday and they were to be closed for the New Year weekend, I expected to hear from them today 01/04/10, no response to me email and or phone call (s). I just left a second voice mail this evening with the hopes the were just really busy today and couldn't get back to me. I love the weapon but obviously wishing it would work correctly. Really hoping Gilberts has the answer I'm looking for, all I can do is wait at this point and hope there is a solution to this issue. Any help from anyone at this point would be much appreciated. Really hating this at this point....
Gilberts Response: Sir we are here from 9am to 6 pm EST Mon thru Friday, and 9am to 4pm on Saturday. We have not received any phone messages from you. As you indicated above, we did respond to your email and we asked you to call us at your convenience. If you call during business hours we will be glad to help you get things squared away. You can reach us toll free at 877-937-4867.

Since the purchase of my Iz 109 I cant remember going shooting without it. In fact, I can't remember going to sleep at night without saying good night to it. I think it makes my girlfriend jealous even tough it is under the bed. I added a poly choke Two on the end of the barrel, and I've been shooting everything I can think of. Some people say they have had problems with these firearms, but I haven't. I field stripped mine right out of the box and cleaned the shit out of it. Some minor polishing and a good bath of lube was all she needed, my saiga cycles even the lowest recoil wal mart shells. The best is going to the trap range and embarrassing people with their high dollar over/unders with an all black, nineteen inch barrel shotty. All the old timers at the range give me funny looks when the saiga comes out, but after I let a few rounds go they all want to talk about and shoulder my gun. No other gun even comes close for home defense, personally, I think that anyone dumb enough to break in would apologize and turn around and run at the sound of the AK action droppping, especially if they saw what you were pointing at them.

Home Defense or Hunting

This shotgun does it all and does it well! I added an aluminum triple rail forearm, extended AK style sights with Ghost rear, Front vertical grip, Skeleton stock, Poly Choke, 12 round mag with a 20 round drum on order. Plan on buying shells by the brick and lots of cleaning supplies. This thing is just too much fun to shoot!

Awesome shotgun, Awesome service

This shotgun is awesome. The recoil is low, the gas tube is adjustable, and the action is fast. It's even more fun to use a 10-round mag. This version has a manual bolt hold-open and a threaded barrel for chokes, although it only comes with a thread protector.
I've fired probably a little over a hundred rounds through mine, and the only failures I've had are from shooting light loads on the heavy load setting. As the manual says, start with setting 1 on the gas tube and change to 2 if you have problems. I can get away with shooting on 1 with the federal bulk just after cleaning until it starts to get a little dirty, then I switch to 2 and shoot all day. Slugs and buckshot work on 1.
I ordered mine the day they came back in stock after being on backorder forever. About 25 hours later, my local dealer called and said my order had arrived. Very fast shipping, very excellent shotgun. I couldn't have asked for more. Thanks, Gilbert!

Great shotgun!

My first shotgun and I'm not regretting it. They make me shoot slugs at the range I go to, so a limbsaver recoil pad was definitely a must. No more pain, but the ammo's getting expensive, lol. Got a Surefire Tri-Rail on the way, for tactical light and or laser sight, i'm thinking green laser prolly.
Watch out for the aftermarket magazines, mine stuck and cause misfeeds, but now that I've lubed em up a bit and ran a few more rounds thru them, I'm not seeing the problem with either the Taiwanese 5 rounders or the clear plastic 10 round mags. Waitin on the 20 round drum to be available.
Short of an AA-12, I can't think of a better combat shotgun.

Your Saiga 12 Pedigree

The Saiga 12 rules. Some people are looking for a clean finish, smooth lines, pristine paint, and fancy details in their shotgun purchase. If you want a gun that looks good on your mantel or in your glass gun case then go buy a Benelli or a Weatherby.
If you want simplicity, reliability, durability and most of all credibility then this shotgun is for you. The Saiga 12 is your “pit-bull” of shotguns. The paint and detailing are lacking but the fire power and reliability can’t be beat!!! It’s pedigree is everything you would expect from the famous Russian IZHMASH, makers of Saiga & Kalashnikov. I have accessorized mine after getting one from Gilberts this past spring and wouldn’t trade if for any other gun out there. I have already run 500 rounds of different ammo through it and it has performed flawlessly. It may not be the “prettiest gun” in your collection but you will find yourself drawn to shooting it over and over again. I would suggest you go to www.saiga-12.com if you are lucky enough to get one. They can help you with any conceivable question you may have regarding your newest edition to your collection.

This is THE most popular shotgun in the US right now. Legendary AK reliability with the 12 gauge chambering makes for a great 3-gun, clay, or tactical setup. IF you can get your hands on this shotgun, DO IT, you won't regret it! These are very hard to get, the last time they were imported, almost every single gun was spoken for BEFORE they even hit the docks! I was lucky enough to snag one a few months back and I'm very happy with it, if I could give it 6/5 stars I would.
